Safari
As part of our 50th Anniversary celebration we took four days for a safari on the Maasai Mara. The Mara is a Maasai word which means “spotted”. Basically, it reflects all the spots in the landscape–trees, riverlets, ravines, moles, ant hills (of the 3-5 foot high varieties), bogs, bushes and small tree shelters. The mara is actually part of the greater Serengetti plane. In Kenya it is called the Mara and in Tanzania it is called the Serengeti. The animals travel between the two grasslands depending on the rains. When the grass is eaten down to the ground the animals move to the other location . Animals generally spend a short season in Kenya and mate there. They cross the Mara River into Tanzania where their young are born and nurtured. No doubt you have seen the National Geographic videos of the transmigration across the river. The animals stay in Kenya about four months and in Tanzania for the other eight months; so if you plan to visit us do come in July, August , September and possibly October.

Fantastic pics!! Now let’s have a game– name the animals. We didn’t do to well on that, except the easy, obvious ones, like the elephant and giraffe.
